In addition to the university graduate admission requirements, the Master of Architecture career change program requires the following.
Minimum Education
Recipients of any bachelor’s degree, other than a pre-professional degree in architecture or environmental design, may apply for admission to the Career Change program. The Career Change program enables students who hold degrees in fields other than architecture to enter the Master of Architecture program.
All students who are accepted are recommended to enter the program with sufficient preparation in math and physics — algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, and basic physics.
Admitted applicants who are still earning the prerequisite degree are admitted contingent on the completion of that degree. Applicants who do not meet this contingency must reapply after graduation.
Résumé
Résumés should include your employment history, educational record, publications, awards, and any community/volunteer experiences you may have. Please upload your résumé to the Texas A&M GradCas System.
Statement of Purpose
Your statement of purpose should clearly demonstrate your interest in the program. Statements of purpose are used to gauge whether an applicant will be a good fit in the program based on research interests and prior experiences.
References
You should provide three letters of recommendation from individuals who are familiar with your academic achievement and potential. If you have been out of school for a number of years and are unable to contact former professors, you may submit non-academic references (e.g., employers).
Applicants can access the electronic letter of recommendation system available via the Texas A&M GradCas System.
Test Scores
The Master of Architecture career change program requires Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores for admittance.
GRE scores should be sent directly from the Educational Testing Service to Texas A&M University (GRE School Code 6003). The recommended minimum combined score of 300 must include a minimum of 146 Verbal for international students. You must have taken the test within five years of the date the application form reaches the Office of Admissions. Tests should be taken at least eight weeks prior to the appropriate application deadline to ensure timely receipt and processing of results. We will use your highest test score from one test date.
Copies of test scores are not considered official, but they may help the University locate your official test scores and are therefore useful when the application is processed.
If you are in a country that has limited access to the test, we will allow waivers on a case-by-case basis. If you are waived from the GRE and an international student, you will be required to submit alternative testing to prove English proficiency.
Samples of Creative Work (optional)
Samples of creative work, or portfolio, displaying your creative abilities and/or interest in architecture is optional and may include:
- Reproductions of drawings, artwork, or other examples of ability for graphic expression
- Articles, essays, or papers prepared on design or environmental topics
- Illustrations from your work experience in architecture or related fields
- Samples of forms of creative work or expression, including, but not limited to, composed music, dance, woodworking, fabrication, digital modeling, or crafting
