Dr. Ming-Han Li ’98
Biography
Dr. Li was named Dean of the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Arlington on June 6, 2023. Since 2018, Dr. Li has served as director of the School of Planning, Design and Construction (SPDC) at Michigan State University. As director, he oversees four programs (construction management, interior design, landscape architecture, and urban and regional planning); a Ph.D. program; and the National Charrette Institute. His efforts have bolstered student enrollment, enhanced interdisciplinary research, magnified contributions to diversity, equity and inclusion, inspired more engagement with alumni and industry and led to critical investments in SPDC’s learning spaces. Dr. Li has guided the School’s strategic planning process and implemented many of the tactics identified in the plan.
Prior to joining Michigan State, Dr. Li served as an assistant professor, associate professor, and professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning within the Texas A&M University College of Architecture from 2003-2017, as well as a researcher with the Texas A&M Transportation Institute from 1996-2017.
Dr. Li has served as president and vice president for research on the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture, receiving the Outstanding Administrator Award this year and was bestowed a fellow in 2017. He was named a fellow with the American Society of Landscape Architects in 2019 and was a member of the landscape and environmental design committee of the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies.
Li is a professional engineer and professional landscape architect in the state of Texas. He is also a certified planner. He earned a BS in agricultural engineering from National Taiwan University (1990), a MS in civil engineering from the University of Texas at Austin (1995), and an MLA (1998) and Doctor of Philosophy in urban and regional science (2002) from Texas A&M University.
