Russ Wallace ’80
Biography
Russ Wallace graduated from the Texas A&M University College of Architecture in 1980 with a Bachelors of Environmental Design, and then received a Masters of Business Administration in 1995 from the University of Houston – Clear Lake. The son of two Texas public school educators, Wallace seemed destined to become a public educational facilities officer. Between 1989 and 2007 Wallace served at four public educational institutions in the Houston area before realizing his life-long dream when he joined the Texas A&M University System Office of Facilities, Design and Construction in 2007.
Wallace led the Office of Facilities, Design & Construction for fourteen years through a period of significant growth and expansion throughout the System. During his tenure as the Chief Facilities Officer for the System, Wallace oversaw a capital program that averaged approximately $2 billion per year in planning, design and construction projects. Noteworthy among the numerous projects was the establishment of three new Texas A&M System university campuses, in Texarkana, Killeen and San Antonio, as well as a new Health Science Center campus in Bryan, Texas.
Mr. Wallace was also part of the executive team responsible for the oversight and implementation of the $483 million Kyle Field Redevelopment project that transformed Kyle Field in two years without any games being missed during the project. Other significant projects completed at TAMU under Mr. Wallace’s oversight were the Renovation of the Memorial Student Center, the TAMU Corps Dorm and Quad Renovations, the establishment of the Military Walk project that celebrates the architectural history of TAMU, and the renovation of the Williams Administration Building.
In 2021 Mr. Wallace retired from the System and founded Russ Wallace Consulting, Ltd., an educational facilities consulting practice, that is now serving numerous public educational facilities throughout Texas, including Texas A&M University.
