{"id":713,"date":"2022-05-16T13:04:35","date_gmt":"2022-05-16T18:04:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.arch.tamu.edu\/arch\/news\/2022\/05\/graduate-architecture-students-honored-at-annual-celebration-of-excellence%ef%bf%bc\/"},"modified":"2022-06-21T11:16:09","modified_gmt":"2022-06-21T16:16:09","slug":"graduate-architecture-students-honored-at-annual-celebration-of-excellence%ef%bf%bc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.arch.tamu.edu\/arch\/news\/2022\/05\/graduate-architecture-students-honored-at-annual-celebration-of-excellence%ef%bf%bc\/","title":{"rendered":"Graduate architecture students honored at annual Celebration of Excellence\ufffc"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A jury of leading design professionals chose \u201cBinational Connection,\u201d the final project by Karla Padilla, as the top project of graduating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arch.tamu.edu\/academics\/graduate-programs\/master-of-architecture\/\">Master of Architecture<\/a> students at the Celebration of Excellence May 11, 2022.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year&#8217;s celebration was the 10th anniversary of the inaugural <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arch.tamu.edu\/arch\/\">Department of Architecture<\/a> event, which honors the department\u2019s outstanding students and faculty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Celebrating design excellence\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/n5whazg3EYo?start=6&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>At the event, Padilla joined her fellow graduate architecture students, all of whom presented their final projects at Rudder Forum.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an opportunity to commemorate the excellent work developed by final study students in our Master of Architecture program,\u201d said Gregory Luhan, head of the Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In her project, Padilla aimed to acknowledge the bi-national cultural and economic reality of border cities El Paso, Texas and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico by creating \u201ceveryday\u201d spaces for citizens of both cities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI sought to physically and conceptually bridge these two cities,\u201d said Padilla. \u201cThey are connected by history, nature and culture.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her project included a water collection and treatment facility and temporary dwellings for locals to have an \u201cin-between\u201d place to stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere are also kiosks and spaces that evoke the street vitality of both cities, as well as a pedestrian bridge with landscaped areas at both ends,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Karla Padilla&#8217;s final project was selected as the top project of graduating Master of Architecture students at the Celebration of Excellence May 11, 2022.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":32,"featured_media":714,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":true,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v20.12 (Yoast SEO v20.12) -
