Promotion of Co-PI Mehta

The Department of Anthropology at Florida State University has recently celebrated significant milestones among its faculty and students.

Co-Principal Investigator Mehta has been promoted to Associate Professor with tenure, marking a significant advancement in her academic career. This recognition reflects her dedication and contributions to the field of anthropology.

Participation in the UNESCO Ocean Decade Conference

Koliou Ocean Decade Conference Barcelona 2024

Principal Investigator Koliou participated in the UNESCO Ocean Decade Conference held in Barcelona, Spain. She shared her research on coastal resilience, highlighting her career paths and projects funded by the National Science Foundation’s Coastlines and People Program—an initiative endorsed by the Ocean Decade. Recognition by Women in Science and Engineering

Koliou was honored with the opportunity to present the Ethel Ashworth-Tsutsui Memorial Lecture, organized by Women in Science and Engineering (WISE). In addition, she presented awards to graduate students and postdoctoral researchers in recognition of their achievements.

Engineering Genesis Awards

Koliou also received two Engineering Genesis Awards for Multidisciplinary Research from the Texas A&M College of Engineering. These awards were for projects where she served as co-PI:

  • Southern Plains Transportation Center: Regional UTC
  • Hempcrete 3D Printed Buildings for Sustainability and Resilience

Co-PI Sideris was also awarded two Engineering Genesis Awards for his work as PI and co-PI on the following projects:

  • Hempcrete 3D Printed Buildings for Sustainability and Resilience
  • Design and Modeling of Ultra-High-Performance Concrete for Additive Construction

Additional Achievements

Civil Engineering PhD student Abdullah Braik has been awarded the 2024-2025 O.H. Ammann Research Fellowship from the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Structural Engineering Institute, recognizing his outstanding research contributions.

In May 2024, the project team held its third annual in-person meeting in College Station, Texas, fostering collaboration and innovation among members.

Co-PI Puppala has been elected as a 2024 ASCE Distinguished Member, a prestigious honor acknowledging his contributions to civil engineering.

Furthermore, Industrial and Systems Engineering PhD student Himadri Sen Gupta received the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award for 2024 from the School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Oklahoma. He was also recognized as an IISE Future Faculty Fellow for 2024 by the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers, highlighting his potential for future academic leadership.

These accomplishments reflect the commitment to excellence and innovation within the faculty and student body, reinforcing Florida State University’s reputation as a leader in research and education.
