Children at campus daycare enjoy new area designed by landscape architecture students

Youngsters at the Becky Gates Children Center are having fun, exploring nature, and learning through play in a new, 39,000 square foot outdoor activity area designed by Texas A&M landscape architecture students.

Led by professors Kenneth Hurst and Mike Teal, students refined and improved their original designs in frequent consultations with Erica Ritter, the center’s director. Final project design and drawings were created by Xin Xu ’19 and Jiali Liu ’19.

“I am most excited about not only having the support of the university for this project, but the collaborations that made this project so special,” said Ritter. “This project, to create a natural playscape for children, is new, innovative, and exciting. We believe this will be the only playground of its kind.”
