College of Architecture Presents the 2024 Showcase

The College of Architecture is hosting an inspiring showcase of creativity and innovation on Thursday, October 3. The annual Showcase event is held at Rudder Auditorium and provides a platform for students and faculty to present their projects and research to industry professionals and the local community.

As guests enter the expansive hall, they will be greeted by an impressive array of exhibits that span various disciplines, including architecture, landscape architecture, and urban planning. Each display tells a unique story, reflecting the hard work and dedication behind the project. 

Keynote Speakers

Bradley R. Freels is an industry leader and works with Midway. The company has emerged as a key player in the greater Houston area, boasting over 45 million square feet of developed properties and more than 4,500 acres of thriving business and residential communities across the United States and northern Mexico. A proud alumnus of Texas A&M University, Freels has earned accolades as both a Distinguished Alumnus and an Outstanding Alumnus of Mays Business School. 

Presentation: Building Community through Placemaking: Why It Matters and How to Make it Work in Development

Dr. Michael F. Goodchild, professor emeritus at the University of California, Santa Barbara, stands out in the field of geographic information science. With a BA from Cambridge and a PhD from McMaster University, he was elected to the United States National Academy of Sciences in 2002 and has authored more than 600 publications, solidifying his legacy as a leading scholar in his discipline.

Engagement and Collaboration

The event fosters a sense of collaboration, with students engaging in discussions with faculty and professionals. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions, as well as to provide valuable feedback that could shape future iterations of work. This interaction is a hallmark of the Showcase, promoting not only individual achievement but also collective growth within the College of Architecture.

Recognition of Excellence

The Showcase culminates in an awards ceremony, recognizing outstanding projects across various categories. The “People’s Choice” award, voted on by attendees, generates excitement and friendly competition among the participants. 

The Texas A&M College of Architecture Showcase successfully highlights the innovative spirit and commitment to excellence that defines its students. This event has previously been known as the Research Symposium. With each project, the next generation of architects, landscape architects, and urban planners is poised to make meaningful contributions to their communities and beyond. As they move forward, the stories shared at the Showcase will undoubtedly inspire future endeavors and collaborations.
