Logan Jones Memorial Scholarship Established at Texas A&M University
Logan Jones, an undergraduate student in Urban and Regional Planning at Texas A&M University’s College of Architecture, was a passionate Aggie devoted to urban planning and design with a deep appreciation for nature. Before tragically passing away in 2023, he envisioned a future where thoughtful, innovative planning would help preserve and celebrate beautiful spaces. In his memory, his loved ones established the Logan Jones Memorial Scholarship, awarded for the first time this year.
This Logan Jones Memorial Scholarship empowers students who share Logan’s commitment to creativity in urban planning and environmental stewardship. To honor his legacy and impact permanently, the Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning and Jones’s family hope to endow the scholarship by raising at least $25,000 over the next five years. Through this endowment, they hope to extend the scholarship’s reach and provide greater opportunities for future generations of students in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning.
Logan’s legacy
While at Texas A&M, Logan honed his Geographic Information Systems (GIS) skills, his urban planning policy knowledge, and his professional capabilities. He also worked as an intern at a land trust, where his map skills played a vital role in securing funding from the Department of Defense for various projects. In his final year, he interned with Pland Collaborative, an Aggie-owned architecture and planning firm in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he worked on significant planning projects and produced detailed maps that reflected his dedication to thoughtful design.
“Logan left a lasting impression on everyone he worked with, and his contributions will not be forgotten.”

“Being a Logan Jones Memorial Scholarship recipient has transformed my experience as an urban planning student,” said Emma Phalen. “This scholarship has eased my financial burdens, allowing me to focus more on my studies and engage more deeply in campus life. I am committed to honoring Logan’s legacy by striving for excellence and making a positive impact on the communities I will serve.”
