{"id":27,"date":"2023-11-03T14:28:50","date_gmt":"2023-11-03T19:28:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.arch.tamu.edu\/reu\/?page_id=27"},"modified":"2023-11-03T14:55:28","modified_gmt":"2023-11-03T19:55:28","slug":"participant-expectations","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.arch.tamu.edu\/reu\/participant-expectations\/","title":{"rendered":"Participant Expectations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>Texas state law (SB 1107) requires that all students (under age 22) entering an institution of higher education in Texas either receive a bacterial meningitis vaccination or meet certain criteria for declining such vaccination.<\/p>\n<p>Participants are also expected to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Participate in residence and in all activities for the entire 10-week session.<\/li>\n<li>Participants are not permitted to be enrolled in any additional courses during the entire 10-week summer period, other than the required research course associated with the program.<\/li>\n<li>Complete program surveys.<\/li>\n<li>Expected to commit at least 40 hours a week.\n<ul>\n\n<li>Includes research hours determined by the research mentor<\/li>\n\n \n\n<li>Includes mandatory activities<\/li>\n\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Complete deliverables by the deadline that include, but are not limited to those below:\n<ul>\n\n<li>Surveys<\/li>\n\n \n\n<li>Curriculum vitae<\/li>\n\n \n\n<li>Research plan<\/li>\n\n \n\n<li>Progress report<\/li>\n\n \n\n<li>Abstract (Paper; Poster and poster presentation)<\/li>\n\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>The program administrators reserve the right to reduce or revoke stipend amount, and\/or dismiss the participant from the program at any time, should requirements and expectations not be met.<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>As a participant, you will be enrolled as a Texas A&amp;M student and will be expected to follow excused absence rules found at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/student-rules.tamu.edu\/rule07\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Attendance page of the Student Rules site<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0for all activities.<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>All vacations (outside of weekends) must be approved by the program staff and the research mentor. At the time of acceptance, participants must notify the program staff of any pre-planned extended vacations in order to provide the program and faculty mentor time to review the request and, if approved, make necessary scheduling and assignment arrangements.<\/p>\n<p>\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n<p>Students will receive a satisfactory or unsatisfactory credit upon completion of the program.
