Texas high schoolers explore climate & disaster response careers at Camp DASH

Camp DASH introduces high school students from disaster-prone areas to careers in climate and disaster management. Directed by Michelle Meyer at Texas A&M University, the camp aims to address a lack of awareness about these essential fields. Through disaster simulations, public health workshops, and urban planning exercises, students gain hands-on experience and insights into these professions. Funded through 2026 by the National Academies of Sciences and Charity Productions, the camp will track participants' career paths to assess its long-term impact.

Behind the Scenes: George Strait at Kyle Field

When George Strait took the stage at Texas A&M’s Kyle Field, a dedicated facilities management team, led by Clayton Gummo, ensured everything ran smoothly. Gummo and his 18-member team, alongside contractors, worked tirelessly on lighting, food services, and even field preservation, so fans could focus on the music. In the lead-up, the team logged extra hours to make sure every detail was perfect, even advocating for new turf as part of the concert deal. Texas A&M also offers a facilities management minor, giving students real-world learning opportunities through events like this.
