Rick Rundell is an architect, innovation, and technology strategist focused on collaborative innovation and entrepreneurship across education and industry. Formerly a Senior Director with Autodesk Research, Rick and his team led Autodesk’s innovation and fabrication centers and a collaborative innovation network that has hosted over 600 startups and research teams from colleges, universities, and industry on-site.
He created and, in 2016, launched the Autodesk BUILD Space (now an Autodesk Technology Center), awarded the 2019 ASCE Charles Pankow Award for Innovation. Rick’s previous work included launching and promoting Building Information Modeling (BIM) as a technology differentiator for the building industry. He also led the development and introduction of cloud and mobile computing tools for construction, tools for simulation and analysis for sustainable building design, and software for conceptual design and collaboration for design teams.
An experienced, registered architect, in 2000, Rick left a practice focused on award-winning facilities for research, education, and discovery to help software startup Revit launch their groundbreaking building modeling software. Revit was acquired by Autodesk in 2002. Rick holds a Bachelor of Arts in Engineering Science (Dartmouth College) and a Master’s in Architecture (Harvard University).
