Scholarly Interests
Dr. Tripp approaches architecture as a discipline in the humanities. His research contributes to the fields of architectural education and architectural history and theory. His historical research focuses on 20th-century group architectural practices in the UK and US, and he is a leading expert on the influential groups Tecton (London, 1932-48) and Caudill Rowlett Scott (Houston, 1948-93). He addresses professional practice as an object of contemplation and is especially interested in the cultural and ethical dimensions of everyday activities like architectural archiving, detailing, drawing, and programming. This is also reflected in his pedagogical research, which focuses on methods of introducing beginning designers to the cultural and ethical dimensions of their work, including methods of research and writing.
