Biography

With academic training in Architecture and Urbanism Davi Xavier received his Bachelor’s degree in 2010. Additionally, he still accumulates and pursues other degrees such as a Building Technician in 2000 by the Federal Institute of Paraiba, translating this into almost 20 years of experience and practice in the field.

His first society as a licensed architect took place in 2010, and it had Davi Xavier as one of the founding partners. Between the years of 2010 and 2013, he produced a large variety of projects, transiting in numerous sub-areas and gathering several acknowledgments, highlighting awards and honorable mentions granted by the Brazilian Institute of Architects, IAB/PB, an entity comparable to the AIA in the United States. Yet in 2013, he opens a new practice: DLMA. This decision had the aim of developing and evolving a design philosophy that places the architecture intimately connected to the space in which will be inserted, generating benefits in several areas of its site: urban, economic, and social. In the following year, the office had its work acknowledged and praised by renowned Brazilian critics, highlighting Francisco Sales Trajano Filho, who drawn the attention to an architecture that “frankly contrasts from pretensions and rhetoric used by existing works by reconciling international progress and resources through the confrontation of design problematic with unique situations and limited means,” when analyzing his proposal for the Sanctuary Nossa Senhora de Fatima.

Imbued by this philosophy and seeking to deepen his critical thinking in architecture and propose discussions about comprehensive and inherent themes in the field he decided to invest in academia. Currently, Davi Xavier lectures as an Assistant Professor of the Practice at Texas A&M University and keeps working on projects in Brazil and in international architectural competitions.
