Biography

Fabrizio Aimar is an Architect and earned a Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Development from the Polytechnic University of Turin, Italy. Since August 2023, he has been an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Architecture at Texas A&M University, USA. At the same university, he also serves as the Director of the Center for Heritage Conservation and holds the Woodcock Endowed Professorship in Historic Preservation. Previously, he served as a Lecturer and Head of the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Architecture and Design at POLIS University, Tirana, Albania (2021-2023).

In 2021, he was appointed as a member of the Advisory Board of the Italian Pavilion at the 17th International Architecture Exhibition “La Biennale di Venezia”, Venice, Italy, titled “Resilient Communities”. In 2023, he was a speaker at one of the 9 side events of the 18th International Architecture Exhibition “La Biennale di Venezia”, Venice, Italy, entitled “Students as Researchers,”. In 2020, he was a Visiting Researcher at ICCROM, Rome, Italy. From November 2019 to March 2022, he collaborated with the Responsible Risk Resilience Centre (R3C) at the Polytechnic University of Turin, Italy, in the Cluster: “Resilient Landscapes, Quality of Ecosystems and Well-being”.

His expertise includes landscape studies, landscape resilience, UNESCO cultural landscapes, built and cultural heritage, urban resilience, and sustainable development. He has several peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and conference proceedings on his account. In addition, he has published his recent monograph titled: “The Resilience of Cultural Landscapes. Perspectives from UNESCO World Heritage Sites.” (Springer, 2024), and the collected book titled: “Advances in Urban Green Development and Resilient Cities” (MDPI, 2024). He has been an anonymous reviewer for the blind peer-review journals published by Springer and Taylor & Francis, among others.

His scholarly and research activities have been the subject of articles and interviews in prominent Italian national newspapers, including La Repubblica, Avvenire, and La Stampa. Moreover, Fabrizio Aimar was elected as a member of the Executive Board of the Order of Architects, Planners, Landscape Architects, and Conservators of the Province of Asti (Piedmont, Italy) for the period 2017-2021, and previously served as a member of the Culture Commission from 2010 to 2016. Furthermore, Fabrizio Aimar was an invited speaker at the 28° International Book Fair in Turin (Piedmont, Italy, 2015) and the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Parliament at Palazzo Montecitorio in Rome (Italy, 2015). In 2020, he was a jury member for the IN/ARCH 2020 Award – Sicily and Calabria regions.
