Building a Sustainable Healthcare System in a Third World Country

Friday, February 25th

The Vincent Obioma Ohaju Memorial (VOOM) Foundation was established to raise the standard of care and create a sustainable medical program in Nigeria. The Nigerian healthcare system is poorly developed and suffers from several recent epidemics. Despite Nigeria’s strategic position in Africa, the country is greatly underserved in the healthcare sphere. Health facilities, expertise, personnel, medical equipment, and major diagnostic modalities are inadequate, especially in rural areas.

BUILD

Friday, March 25th

BUILD’s long-term vision is to unite the student body at Texas A&M University through the completion of an annual university-wide service project, which involves converting 40-foot shipping containers into Texas Aggie Medical Clinics (TAMCs). Since 2014, the students of BUILD have deployed 36 TAMCs to communities in more than 20 countries around the world to provide medical services to people in need. These TAMCs have been dedicated in honor of the students who lost their lives during the 1999 Aggie Bonfire tragedy, and to Aggie veterans who have died serving our country since 9/11. From the start, BUILD has embodied the Aggie core value of selfless service and has provided a tangible way for students at A&M to continue to give back to our campus environment and the global community. It is BUILD’s goal that this university-wide service project will become a mainstay tradition in Aggieland.
