CHUD is divided into four units, or programs, that delve into a specific topic within CHUD\u2019s larger mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-units-and-programs\">Units and Programs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arch.tamu.edu\/impact\/centers-institutes-outreach\/chud\/about\/gridd-unit\/\">GRIDD Unit<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arch.tamu.edu\/impact\/centers-institutes-outreach\/chud\/about\/smart-cities-program\/\">Smart Cities Program<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arch.tamu.edu\/impact\/centers-institutes-outreach\/chud\/about\/urban-informatics-unit\/\">Urban Informatics Unit<\/a> <\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arch.tamu.edu\/impact\/centers-institutes-outreach\/chud\/about\/fair-and-affordable-housing-program\/\">Fair and Affordable Housing Program<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-our-mission\">Our Mission<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>CHUD\u2019s mission is to provide leadership as a center of inquiry for the creation of sustainable housing and communities. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huduser.org\/portal\/sustainability\/about.html\">U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development<\/a> defines sustainable communities are those that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Feature vibrant economies<\/li><li>Offer a choice of housing and transportation modes<\/li><li>Are closer to jobs, schools, shopping and recreation<\/li><li>Are less energy dependent<\/li><li>Help protect clean water and air<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"btn-wrapper \">\n\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a class=\"btn \" href=\"https:\/\/www.arch.tamu.edu\/impact\/centers-institutes-outreach\/chud\/service\/\" target=\"\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tOutreach &amp; Service\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a class=\"btn btn--outline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.arch.tamu.edu\/impact\/centers-institutes-outreach\/chud\/education\/\" target=\"\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tEducation\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\n\t<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"our-research\">Our Research<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>CHUD supports its mission through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arch.tamu.edu\/impact\/centers-institutes-outreach\/chud\/education\/\">research and engagement<\/a> in the following focal areas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Sustainable landscape and urban planning, design and development practices<\/li><li>Innovative green building techniques and technologies<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>CHUD has received over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arch.tamu.edu\/impact\/centers-institutes-outreach\/chud\/grants\/\">45 million dollars in funding<\/a> for our research pursuits. In the last five years, we\u2019ve published 131 peer-reviewed articles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-our-people\">Our People<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>CHUD&#8217;s community of scholars \u2014 both faculty and doctoral fellows \u2014 work toward achieving our mission through research and engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"btn-wrapper \">\n\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a class=\"btn \" href=\"https:\/\/www.arch.tamu.edu\/impact\/centers-institutes-outreach\/chud\/people\/\" target=\"\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMeet our people\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\n\t<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-our-history\">Our History<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Center for Housing &amp; Urban Development (CHUD) has a long history of serving border residents in the Texas colonias. In early 2012, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arch.tamu.edu\/impact\/centers-institutes-outreach\/colonias-program\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"231\">Colonias Program <\/a>became its own unit, permitting CHUD to reinvent itself as a research center for faculty and students conducting research related to housing, sustainable development and urban issues.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Center for Housing and Urban Development provides research, education and outreach opportunities related to creating sustainable housing and communities.
